Home Flooring Trends for 2023
Interior Design Inspiration for your 2023 Flooring
Floors are truly the foundation of your home interior design and they can dictate how you decorate and style your home. Equally, an outdated or damaged floor can ruin the impact of a beautifully styled home. Here we take a look forward to the up and coming design trends for home flooring in 2023 and beyond! As always, we remind you that personal taste and style comes before trends every time but here are the trends looking set to be popular and those which remain popular and we hope these inspire you for your own home.
Returning Favourites: 2022 Trends Set to Stay
There are a few trends from 2022 that don’t look like they are going anywhere any time soon! These are the modern classics that won’t look dated in years to come and so are good investment styles for the home.
Neutral Colours in Flooring
There are many benefits to neutral colours in flooring solutions, one of the biggest benefits being that they allow you to be more creative with the rest of your decor and they allow you the freedom to change up the rest of your decor more regularly if you so choose. In 2021/2022 the trend for neutrals was more on the warm tone side with beiges and browns growing in popularity and although these will remain stylish options, 2023 is moving more to cooler ashy tones.

Respective of whether you prefer warm or cool tones, neutral flooring colours create a great design foundation whilst creating a soft, cosy, homely feel which - when paired with an interior of neutrals - is relaxing and calming. Pairing neutrals with bolder pops of colour and texture create an energetic and enigmatic, fun home design. Neutrals really are a great choice for longevity and versatility.
Flooring with Geometric Patterns
Geometric patterns have been hugely popular especially since the resurgence of heritage tiling. You will see later in this article that patterned tiles remain popular and although geometric patterns will remain in flooring trends and are set to be high in the style charts for the foreseeable, there’s a new kid on the block taking on the boldness of geometric patterns with a softer, more fluid feel.

Herringbone and Chevron Floor Laying Patterns
Herringbone flooring is a very popular home flooring choice, and we don’t expect that to change anytime soon. Herringbone is an absolute classic and is just as beautiful in a bijou study or a grand ballroom. Chevron appears to be taking over herringbone in popularity and is a more modern take on herringbone. The iconic zig-zag associated with herringbone remains with chevron but the more symmetrical and uniform alignment is very pleasing and can showcase the wood effect planks spectacularly.

2023: Trends in Flooring for Home Interiors
There are some trends emerging in interior design that extend to flooring solutions that we think will be very popular in 2023 and beyond. Let's take a look!
Wood Effect Flooring for 2023
Wood effect flooring remains in high demand and the characteristics of Luxury Vinyl Tile make it a great choice for the home (and a great choice for your bank balance!). In 2023 wood effect planks/tile colours lean toward whitewashed, grey, light brown and two tone combinations as well as cool toned darker woods. We have moved away from the orangey/yellow warm tones of 2021/2022 although light browns and beige neutrals on the warmer side remain popular.

Cool and desaturated shades will be at the top of the trends for wood effect flooring. Texture is king in 2023 and the more textured your wood effect flooring the better! Think distressed and reclaimed wood styles. Interesting laying patterns have been at the top of the style lists for a few years now and 2023 will once again see flooring trends (especially for wood aesthetics) lean towards laying patterns like; herringbone, diagonal, hexagonal and chevron. We will also see large wide planks and tiles feature more heavily in homes in 2023.

Making A Statement with 2023 Flooring Trends
Every year there is a bold statement flooring type that dominates trends, in 2021 and 2022 it was the rise of the heritage tile and geometric pattern and whilst these will remain popular, particularly in hallways, bathrooms and utilities, there is a new statement flooring in town! In juxtaposition to the cool tones of wood effect flooring trends, tiles and LVT will look to warm pigments and vibrant, almost stencilled, artistic patterns in arc and curved designs (as opposed to the sharp angular feel of most heritage and victorian style tile). Patterned tile will be more energised with sparse and enigmatic patterns rather than tight detailing. Think bold sweeping lines with impactful fresh colours and contemporary patterns. Make your floor a work of art in 2023!

A huge trend will be combination flooring. Mixing wood and tile/ carpet and mismatching shapes and textures will be a huge trend in 2023 and beyond. This is an interesting crossover of commercial trends into the home. For a long time, large open spaces such as offices, hotels and educational facilities have used combination flooring to designate and identify spaces and also to add interest and stylish elements to vast expanses.

Combination flooring in the home serves a similar purpose in that it is particularly impactful in open plan living spaces, equally creating focal points such as formal dining or even edging a fireplace can be achieved beautifully by combining flooring.
